On Thursday October 4, A Woman’s Place (AWP) and members of the Bucks County community will come together for AWP’s annual Domestic Violence Awareness Candlelight Vigil.

AWP holds the Candlelight Vigil annually in October to commemorate Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This year’s Vigil will be held at the Historic Quakertown Train Station located at 15 Front Street. The event begins at 6:00PM with a reception immediately following.
The annual vigil holds a special significance this year as AWP reflects on its 40 years of service to Bucks County. Though AWP can count tens of thousands of client and community lives made safer through its work, the candlelight vigil acknowledges that there were still numerous victims in our area whose lives were lost to violence. AWP invites the entire community to honor survivors for their courage, reflect on the suffering of all those who experience domestic and intimate violence, and pledge continued support for ending domestic and intimate violence in Bucks County.

Vigil attendees will be joined by members of many Bucks County community organizations, as well as individuals from all parts of Upper, Lower, and Central Bucks. Speakers will include elected officials, AWP staff, and the featured speaker will be former AWP client Lyne Miller. Lyne and her family were residents of AWP’s emergency shelter in 1985, and her story is one of finding the courage to flourish. In 2015, Lyne ran a collection drive for the benefit of AWP shelter clients, and she has been a stalwart supporter of AWP for many years.

AWP is the only domestic violence community benefit organization in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. AWP has provided free, private, confidential, and comprehensive shelter, service, support, advocacy, outreach, training, and education to victims of domestic abuse and violence and their children and the community for nearly 40 years. AWP’s free, private, and confidential hotline (1.800.220.8116) is available 24-hours a day. Information about AWP, domestic violence, the Domestic Violence Candlelight Vigil, and other upcoming events can be found at www.awomansplace.org.
