The Sourland Conservancy is pleased to announce that the Sourlands has been included in New Jersey Monthly’s Natural Wonders poll presented by the New Jersey Nature Conservancy.  "This is a wonderful opportunity to introduce New Jersey Monthly readers to the fragile beauty of the Sourland Region,” said Caroline Katmann, Sourland Conservancy Executive Director. “The Sourland region provides habitat for threatened and endangered wildlife.  As the largest contiguous forest in central New Jersey, it also provides important breeding ground for migratory birds.  Its mountain springs feed the headwaters of many streams and rivers, too.  This is a critical time for the Sourlands as we are currently facing serious threats including the proposed PennEast pipeline."

According to the magazine, "This secluded region is home to the largest contiguous forest in Central New Jersey, where a rich diversity of animal and plant species thrive. Birds like scarlet tanagers, barred owls, bobolinks and pileated woodpeckers make use of the habitat here, and spotted salamanders and bobcats, too. The Sourlands’ many parks and access points make outdoor activities like horseback riding, fishing, picnicking, hunting, cross-country skiing, photography, rock climbing and bird watching popular."

The poll is now open.  Vote weekly at https://njmonthly.com/articles/jersey-living/poll-jerseys-top-natural-wonders/

The field begins with 24 contenders. Each week New Jersey Monthly will drop the lowest vote-getters and start a new round of voting each Thursday until the final round starting September 22. Voters must vote weekly to ensure that their favorite Natural Wonder continues to each round.  The winner will be announced on Friday, September 30.

The Sourland Conservancy is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to protect, promote and preserve the unique character of the Sourland region.  For more information, visit www.sourland.org.
